John Terrill Majors (1935 -  ), '57:  Johnny was a standout halfback at UT, where he was an All-American in 1956 and a two-time winner of the SEC MVP award in 1955 and 1956.  He finished second for the Heisman Trophy in 1956.  Johnny served as the head coach at Iowa State University (1968–1972), the University of Pittsburgh (1973–1976, 1993–1996), and Tennessee (1977–1992), compiling a career college football record of 185–137–10. His 1976 Pittsburgh squad won a national championship after capping a 12–0 season with a victory in the Sugar Bowl.  He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as a player in 1987.  At Tennessee, Majors achieved success in the 1980s and early 1990s winning three SEC championships in 1985, 1989, and 1990.  In 1989, the Majors-led Vols followed a 5–6 season with an 11–1 season, the largest turnaround in college football that year.

 

Joseph Benton "Joe" Steffy Jr. (1926 – 2011), '48:  Joe played one season at UT in 1944, where the Vols went undefeated in the regular season, but lost to U.S.C. in the Rose Bowl.  in 1945, he enrolled at the U.S. Military Academy, where he played for Army's team for 3 seasons as an offensive guard and a center on defense.  The Cadets went undefeated in 1945 and 1946; in 1947, Joe was named team captain.  was an American football player. He later fought in the Korean War and received the Bronze Star Medal and the Purple Heart.  

 

Allyn McKeen (1905 – 1978), '29:  Allyn served as the head coach at what now the University of Memphis (1937 to 1938), and at Mississippi State (1939 to 1948), compiling a career college football record of 78–25–3.  He was inducted into the CFHoF as a coach in 1991.  Allyn played guard and end at UT (1925 to 1927),  and was also the captain of the basketball and track teams. At Memphis as head coach, his 1938 team went undefeated at 10–0.  At Mississippi State, he compiled a 65–19–3 record. In 1940, he was named the SEC Coach of the Year after leading Mississippi State to its only undefeated season in school history. The following year, his squad captured the first and only Southeastern Conference championship in program history.
